Enhanced Recovery Programs help hospitals reduce the use of opiates for surgery patients.

Scaling back on the use of opiates for post-surgery pain relief is the goal of Enhanced Recovery Programs. A customized pain management plan is developed for each patient to be implemented during and after surgery. Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a leader in using Enhanced Recovery, which doctors say help patients recover sooner, be more alert during recovery and return home earlier.
