(dramatic instrumental music) - Our vision is really important in terms of how we navigate the world around us.
So we know that the older population is at risk for falls.
Vision tends to be a leading cause of that, 'cause as you can imagine, if it's difficult for a person to see their environment, it's also difficult for them to navigate around their environment.
Now, there are certain conditions that affect older adults, just part of normal aging of the eyes.
Conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma and macular degeneration, and even dry eye tend to affect the older population.
So it's really important that our older adults seek eye care at least once a year.
Are you able to see any of the letters here?
- [Patient] N, V. - As I tell my own patients, their responsibility is to monitor their vision and my responsibility is to look for the things that they wouldn't know were going on with their eyes.
So it's really important that you partner with an optometrist or ophthalmologist who can give you a thorough dilated eye exam in order to screen for any changes in your eyes, 'cause not all change is normal.
It's important for you to monitor your vision, any changes as far as blurred vision, flashes of light, floaters, or sudden loss of vision, warrant a eye exam.
