Gigantic alebrijes made by master Mexican artisans have taken up residence nearby.
From embroidered textiles to painted pottery to tooled leather goods, Mexico's folk art traditions burst with all the brilliant color and life of the country itself. Some of these traditions have origins reaching back centuries, but one beloved folk art form is not even a hundred years old yet, the exuberantly imaginative fantastical creatures known as alebrijes, which date back to the 1930s.
