Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipWell New Jersey's first offshore wind project is one big step closer to becoming reality Ocean Wind 1, which is being built by the Danish Energy company Orsted, just cleared its environmental analysis by federal regulators.
That means final approval for the project is now expected this summer with construction slated to start next year.
The project proposes to install up to 98 wind turbines and up to three offshore substations.
Meanwhile a second offshore wind project, that one's called Atlantic Shores, is also making progress receiving its draft Environmental Impact Statement.
Now both developments are seen as key pieces to transitioning New Jersey to renewable energy, that's a goal of both Governor Murphy and the Biden administration.
