Creating a Family Media Use Plan
11/27/2023 | 1m 4sVideo has Closed Captions
Working on a usage plan together can help families use media in a more balanced way.
As we go about our day, adults are constantly using media to work, stay informed, and keep in touch with friends and family. We can all benefit from having a healthy balance of screen time, and this family models that behavior for their daughter. To do so, they work together to develop a family media plan limiting screen time to one hour a day and never use their devices at meals or bedtime.

Zoey.
As we go about our day, adults are constantly using media to work, stay informed, and keep in touch with friends and family.
We can all benefit from having a healthy balance of screen time and we really want to model that behavior for Zoey.
Together we've created a family media plan to do just that.
We limit screen time to just one hour a day.
Do you want to watch Daniel Tiger before dinner?
- Yeah.
- With our schedules, we decided before dinner is the best time.
When Zoey does interact with media, we make sure it reinforces our values and age-appropriate learning goals.
We love Daniel Tiger games and videos to support social-emotional learning at her age.
We've also found it helpful to have a media curfew.
At mealtimes and bedtime we put all devices away.
Having a plan has helped our family use media in a more balanced way.
